Leadership Lessons with Susan Heegaard

Susan Heegaard has always prioritized authentic and intentional networking, even when working in Washington, D.C. Staying connected, even from afar, meant she was able to maintain and grow her reputation to position herself for future opportunity. This intentional approach made it easy to relocate when it was time to return to Minnesota, because she was already in contact and community with her network. She was able to truly talk about her experiences in a way that highlighted her skill set instead of focusing only on titles.

When stepping into a new type of leadership role as president of the Higher Education Compact, Heegaard again turned to her network for guidance and support. For her, it’s about knowing your strengths and seeking support where needed. Heegaard is looking forward to the future and the opportunity to continue to build on a strong foundation.
