I am honored to present this topic Jan. 29 at the St. Kate’s Leadership Conference where I’m looking forward to discussing the roles mentors, advocates and ambassadors play in our career.
Initially we will discuss the importance of surrounding yourself with people who not only support you professionally but also lift you up, stretch you, challenge you, model for you skills and behaviors you hope to acquire or emulate. It is valuable to understand how to identify and engage these people in a way that not only offers perspective and insight but propels your career forward. Proactive career development and management isn’t about having your resume in queue, or sharpening your technical skills, it is about who you surround yourself with. Relationships reign no matter what your profession is or what organization you work at. Going it alone is a poor strategy in many parts of life. Relying on others, learning from others, allowing others to bolster you along your path is the key to success on many levels. Surrounding yourself with rockstars will bring out the best in you and good things will then naturally come your way.
