Hiring During the Holidays

It is a longstanding popular belief that “no one hires over the holidays”, which prompts many job seekers to kick back and coast until the new year. As we look to Thanksgiving next week, going into the holiday season with a good job search plan so that you come into the new year with momentum is critical.  If you kick back now you will lose potentially 7 weeks of productive job search time.  Think about it since many job seekers remove themselves from searching over the holidays, you have less competition.  Also every year I see people get job offers the week between Christmas and New Years.  The reason for this is that if a company had plans in this budget year to hire, they run the risk of losing funding for that position if not filled before the end of the fiscal year.  Also the holidays lend to lots of gatherings, which are prime opportunities to network, make sure you are always carrying your business cards.  So use this holiday season to your advantage to stay ahead of your competition, maintain momentum and build your network.  Happy Holidays
