One Day at a Time

There is a saying, “stop worrying about tomorrow, it will come”. Every day I see job seekers obsess and worry about tomorrow and what it may hold. What they have lost sight of is that tomorrow will come and that their focus and energy should be focused on today. It all boils down to where job seekers put their thoughts, energy and attention. The secret to managing the worry is to focus on one day at a time. I tell my clients that all you have to focus on is today, only today and the efforts and activities they put into today. At the end of each day if they can look back on the day and say “I’ve done my best”, they have done their job. A successful job search is the result of stringing as many days as possible together where you’ve done your best. In the world of job search best is defined by doing job search activities that have the highest return on your investment of time. It is a combination of working on job search tools, like your resume, identifying and applying for jobs and networking – everyday. Everyday, focus your energy and attention here and let tomorrow take care of itself.
