Loyal Survivors May Not Survive in the Long Run

Over the past few years we have seen an unprecedented recession that brought deep lay offs to many if not most companies. The employees that kept their jobs are referred to as the survivors. These are the people that helped keep things running. These are the loyal and dedicated ones who took on 2-3 times the work load to keep the doors open. They have grown tired and weary and burnt to the core by heavy workloads.

Employers should be grateful and even indebted – right? Well at some level they may be but times are changing and we are moving out of the recession into new times. The new economic climate will force companies to do things differently moving forward. And this may require different skills, different talent and yes maybe even different types of employees.

This is not meant to shock, anger or strike fear in the survivors, it is a wake up call to pay attention to what is going on around you. It is a time to reassess your options, a time to get your ducks in a row and a time to realize that you too can do something different.
