Professional Integrity
Integrity is one of the most popular attributes job seekers are looking for in a new employer. They are looking closely at companies and how they have conducted themselves in tough times. Job seekers often express their frustration about the seemingly lack of integrity prospective employers show in the hiring process with very little if any acknowledgement of a submitted resume or application, no return phone calls or even a call notifiying a candidate that they weren’t the chosen one. I can’t agrue that professional integrity on the employers’ side has seemingly fallen to the weigh side.
But I also see a double standard being imposed on the job seekers side. For as vocal as job seekers are about the lack professional integrity by an employer, I challenge them to hold up a mirror. Too often I see job seekers not returning phone calls, not following up with networking connections, and not following through on leads given to them by well intended contacts. I challenge job seekers who seem to get very self absorbed in this process to look in the mirror and ask themselves are they modeling the same kind of professional integrity they expect from prospective employers and others.
