Running out of people to talk to?
When a client of mine says they have talked to everyone they know and have run out of people to talk to it tells me two things are likely happening. First, one of the primary objectives of a networking conversation is to obtain additional names and contacts. For each networking conversation you should walk away with at least 2-3 names. If the person you are networking with can’t think of anyone at the time, tell them you will follow up with them in a week or so. Networking as an activity should be self propagating. Secondly, you never want to get more than 30-45 days away from your network, you want to reconnect with them on a regular basis. By staying in front of your network contacts you are staying front of mind, so they will think of you when they think of other connections and opportunities. Remember everyone knows someone therefore it is unlikely you will run out of people to talk to.
