Opportunities for Sunsetters
I was featured on the Kare 11 Sunrise “Work It Wednesday” show this week.
I talked about sun-setters, people in the later stages of their careers who find themselves out of a job or in a place where they can’t retire as soon as they’d hoped. I mentioned the idea of Portfolio Careers, a way of creating a career out of several income streams. It can blend career and personal passions in a way that is fulfilling for people later in life.
One example of this would be a person who was an accountant but also enjoyed music. He started to offer bookkeeping services and piano lessons and found that it blended well with his desire to spend time with grandchildren.
As I mentioned in my interview with Kim Insley, several of my clients have said that losing a job resulted in some wonderful opportunities. Don’t give up hope. Think creatively about how to use your existing skills and interests. Call me to help you work out your next career move.
